2015 Blancpain Sprint Series Zolder - practice 1&2

The next round of the 2015 Blancpain GT series will be held this weekend on the Zolder track. After the massive and very interesting Endurance event in Silverstone, the Blancpain GT Series has moved to Belgium and will be held on a 4-kilometers-long track. The track itself was built in 1963 and has hosted numerous events in the past including the Belgina Formula One Grand Prix. Its layout is interesting and has some  fast corners and a few straights.

The list of participating drivers consisted of 18 drivers and the event started on Friday with two 80-minute-long practice sessions. Almost three hours of free practice sessions will give drivers enough time to learn the track in full.

During the practice sessions, the weather was bright and sunny but maybe too hot since the track temperature was 50 degrees which affected the tyres quite severely. After the first 80 minutes of hectic track action, it was the #2 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT R8 of Christopher Mies that topped the standings, completing the Zolder track in 1’31.947 min.

The Ferrari 458 Italia GT3  scored second in the practice session while Ferrari had first time, followed by Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 and Audi on third. The qualifying sessions starts tomorrow morning followed by qualifying race tomorrow afternoon, so stay tuned.
