  • Audi TT cup Nurburgring Joonas Lappalainen

Joonas Lappalainen takes his second win of the weekend in the second race of the Audi Sport TT Cup at Nürburgring. With total of three wins in ten races, Lappalainen is now a championship leader, with four more races to go. He collected 197 points, seventeen more than Dennis Marschall.

Marshall was tied in the points with Lappalainen before today’s race, but Marschall was involved into the opening-lap crash and with damaged car he has to be happy to finish the race. Sheldon van der Linde, who was third in the standings before the race, wasn’t so lucky, because his #31 Audi was caught by fire and he had to retired from the race. Emil Lindholm and Christoph Hofbauer also retired after a crash on Lap 1, which caused the red flag.

After a restart, Marshall started as the leader, but the damaged car didn’t allow him to race in the full speed, so he dropped down the field. Joonas Lappalainen took the comfortable win, ahead of Nicklas Nielsen. The podium promoted Nielsen to the third place in the Cup classification. Philip Ellis completed the podium, which was his first podium this season.
