DTM: Ekstrom wins race 2 at Hungaroring
Mattias Ekstrom is the winner of DTM race 2 at Hungaroring what is his first victory in 2016. Adrien Tambay completed Audi’s 1-2 and Daniel Juncadella in Mercedes was 3rd.
Saturday’s winner Edoardo Mortara started from pole position, accompanied in the front row with Mattias Ekstrom, another Audi driver. Championship leader Marco Wittmann sneaked between the Ingolstadters and was followed by Jamie Green and Miguel Molina.
The start of the race was action-packed after Ekstrom took the lead, Adrien Tambay moved up to the third followed by Daniel Juncadella, while Mortara had to pit after the puncture. Unlucky Green was forced to retire after Wittmann damaged his car in the incident. However, Wittmann was in the best situation as he was running fourth after 15 minutes of racing.
The gaps were on the top of the grid and no one of top six drivers couldn’t use DRS. Audi’s decision to complete mandatory pit-stop later in the race proved to be a good one and Ekstrom scored his first win of the year and the last in the same time as he will miss the last round at Hockenheim because he wants to focus on winning the title in WRX.
Adrien Tambay finished 2nd in the race what is his best result in 2016 while Daniel Juncadella took the last spot on the podium. Marco Wittmann finished 4th to strengthen his overall lead while the remaining points were scored by Antonio Felix da Costa, Tom Blomqvist, Timo Glock, Timo Scheider, Maxime Martin, and Mike Rockenfeller.
