Hamilton wins Hungarian GP to claim the lead in the F1 championship

  • 2016 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton won the Hungarian Grand Prix what is his third consecutive win in 2016. The reigning champion also became a new championship leader for the first time this year.

The start of the race was pretty exciting. Lewis Hamilton took the lead from Rosberg at Turn 1 while Daniel Ricciardo for a while was just behind the reigning champion, but Nico managed to overtake him quickly. Fernando Alonso also started well and moved up to sixth place.

After the first pit-stop, Rosberg slightly reduced a gap but Ricciardo was the one who was fastest on the track at the moment. However, he was too far from the both Mercedes cars. Kimi Raikkonen did a great job. The Finn started from the 14th place but at half of the race, he was in the fifth.

Unfortunately, last third of the race was a bit boring. Mercedes again had a race of their own, Ricciardo was more than five seconds behind while both Ferraris were almost 10 seconds behind Hamilton and Rosberg. The most interesting was a battle for fifth place between Verstappen and Raikkonen but Red Bull driver did well enough to keep his position.

At the end, Hamilton scored his fifth victory this season and fifth at Hungaroring in his career. Nico Rosberg finished second for the first time this year while Daniel Ricciardo defended well to keep the third place, leaving Sebastian Vettel on fourth and Verstappen in fifth place.
