GP2 Series: Antonio Giovinazzi wins sprint race at Spa

Antonio Givionazzi (Prema Racing) wins GP2 Series sprint race today at Spa-Francorchamps. It’s his third win of the season, after he won both races in Baku in June. Gustav Malja (Rapax) and Luca Ghiotto (Trident Motorsport) completed the podium.

Gustav Malja, who finished 8th in the Saturday’s race, started from pole on the reversed grid. He defends his position after the start but Luca Ghiotto, who was also in the front row, didn’t. He was beaten by Antonio Giovinazzi. The Italian driver took the lead on Lap 8. All three podium position remained unchanged until the end of Lap 18.

Behind podium scorers, championship leader and the winner of yesterday’s race Pierre Gasly (Prema Racing) progressed from tenth starting position to the fourth place at the end of the race. Raffaele Marciello, Alex Lynn, Jordan King and Oliver Rowland compleed the Top 8 classification and scored some points. The finish of the race was marked by the last turn incident between Russians Sergey Sirotkin and Artem Markelov, which put them both out of points.
