Porsche Supercup - Monaco: Second season's win for Matteo Cairoli

The young Italian Matteo Cairoli, the member of the Porsche Junior programme, scored his second victory in the second round of the 2016 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. After his maiden win two weeks ago in Barcelona, Cairoli today wins the race at the Monaco street circuit. Today’s race in Monte-Carlo was the 250th race of the Porsche Supercup, which was inaugurated in 1993.

The 19-year-old Cairoli, who was driving for the Fach Auto Tech team, started the race from pole position and remained in the lead until the end, against challenging conditions and rivals who chased him. The end was declared on Lap 15, when the race was red-flagged because of heavy rain. Prior to that, Klaus Bachler (race:pro motorsport) slid into the barriers. Due to red-flag situation, the results from Lap 14 was declared as final result, so Bachler took second place ahead of Michael Ammermüller (Lechner MSG Racing Team).

Twenty-five drivers participated in the Monaco race, three of didn’t finish as they retired in the earlier phase of the race. Ben Barker finished fourth, ahead of the French Porsche Junior Mathieu Jaminet. Christian Engelhart finished sixth. Sven Müller made an impressive improvement after he started from the back of the grid  because he crashed in qualifying. He finished in 13th position.

The third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is scheduled for July 1-3 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
