The 2016 Porsche Supercup season comes to the end this weekend at Circuit of the Americas and four drivers are the contenders for the title.

Muller already won one title in 2016, Cairoli feels no pressure

After thrilling final weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, we can expect two exciting races of the final round. Who will be crowned as the new champion we will on Saturday or, what is more likely, on Sunday after the final race of 2016 season.

Four drivers have a chance to win the title – Sven Muller (Lechner Racing Team), Matteo Cairoli (Fach Auto Tech), Mathieu Jaminet (Martinet by Almeras), and Michael Ammermuller (Lechner Racing Team). Muller, who was crowned as the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany champion last weekend, travels to Texas with a small advantage but with a lot of confidence. At the same time, he is only of four drivers who can clinch the title after the first race on Saturday but it seems to be a very tough task.

Cairoli’s chance is in the fact that he hasn’t anything to lose. The pressure is on Muller who is considered as the favorite. The Italian driver has to be patient until Sunday as he is only two points behind Muller. His advantage could be a fact that he has four race wins (Barcelona, Monaco, Hockenheim, and Monza) on his account so far, comparing to three scored by the German racer, at Red Bull Ring, Silverstone, and Hungaroring).

Jaminet and Ammermuller more probably will battle for the 3rd place

If they want to win the title, Mathieu Jaminet and Michael Ammermuller must hope for a stroke of luck. The Frenchman, who scored his maiden victory at Spa, is 29 points behind Muller, while the 2015 champion Ammermuller is 32 points behind and most probably they will be eliminated from the title battle after the first race at COTA but they will fight for the third position in the overall standings.

However, we will watch the races without special tactical approaches from the two main title contenders. To fetch the championship there is only one solution and that is to be faster than the opponent and there is no room for any kind of calculations. Besides this, steady nerves could also be an important factor for both title contenders.
