Fourth round of the Renault Sport Trophy at Circuit Paul Ricard

The fourth round of the 2016 Renault Sport Trophy season was held at Circuit Paul Ricard. Fran Rueda and Tanart Sathienthirakul, the pair in the #15 Marc VDS EG 0,0 car, won the Saturday’s Endurance race. On Sunday, Fredrik Blomstedt (R-Ace GP) won the Am class Sprint race while Pieter Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) is the winner of the Pro class Sprint race.

The victory in the 70-minute Endurance race was the first for Fran Rueda and Tanart Sathienthirakul. Rueda started from pole position and he was under pressure of teammate Fabian Schiller in the #9 car, but after Schiller suffered a puncture, the #15 car comfortably took the victory. Rueda and Sathienthirakul won ahead of Jeroen and Pieter Schothorst in the Equipe Verschuur’s #21 car. Miguel Ramos and Mike Verschuur, in another Equipe Verschuur #19 car, finished third. After this race, Fabian Schiller and Markus Palttala (Team Marc VDS EG 0,0) are tied in the standings for the Endurance trophy.

On Sunday, one more driver scored his maiden victory in the Renault Sport Trophy. It was  Fredrik Blomstedt, who won ahead of pole sitter and new leader in the category Fran Rueda. Miguel Ramos finished on podium again, taking third place. Jelle Beelen (V8 Racing) crossed the finish line as third, but he lost his podium place during post-race scrutineering where it was discovered that his ballast wasn’t the predetermined weight.

In the Pro class, Pieter Schothorst took his second consecutive win and jumped into the lead in the overall classification of his class. Pro class podium at Paul Ricard was completed by David Fumanelli (Oregon Team) and Nelson Panciatici (Duqueine Engineering).

The next round of the Renault Sport Trophy is scheduled fo September 24-25 at Spa-Francorchamps.
