Nico Rosberg takes pole position in Singapore

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg won the pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix after being fastest in the qualifying at Marina Bay Street Circuit. This is the 7th pole for the German in 2016.

Daniel Ricciardo was the fastest in the first qualifying round, setting the time of 1:44.255 what was 0.709s better that time set by Kimi Raikkonen. Interestingly Mercedes drivers were out of top three. Lewis Hamilton ended 4th while Nico Rosberg was 8th.

Sebastian Vettel’s and Ferrari’s bad luck continues

Ferrari’s agony has continued after Sebastian Vettel failed to qualify for the Q2 after a mechanical failure on his car and the winner of the last year’s race will start from the bottom of the grid on Sunday. Esteban Ocon, Pascal Wehrlein, Jolyon Palmer, Felipe Nasr and Kevin Magnussen also were out of the next qualifying round.

Mercedes returned to the top in the second qualifying round at Marina Bay circuit. Nico Rosberg was the fastest with a result 1:43.020, 0.451s ahead of Hamilton. In the last minute of the session, Romain Grosjean crashed into the barriers and Haas driver failed to qualify for the last round, just like Marcus Ericsson, Esteban Gutierrez, Jenson Button, Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas.

Rosberg confirmed fine form in the last qualifying round when he set lap time 1:42.584 what was more than enough to beat Daniel Ricciardo. Lewis Hamilton will start from the third position after he has made a mistake on the final lap. The reigning champion was only 0.1s faster than Max Verstappen while the third row on the starting grid will be occupied by Kimi Raikkonen and Carlos Sainz Jr.

Daniil Kvyat and Nico Hulkenberg will start from the fourth row while Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez will be on starting positions 9 and 10.
