TCR International Series at Spa: Watch out for the Leopards in the Ardenne woods
Watch out of the Leopards in the woods of the Ardennes! Three Leopard Racing’s drivers sweep the podium in the second race of the TCR International Series at Spa-Francorchamps. Jean-Karl Vernay scored his first TCR victory, ahead of teammate and defending champion Stefano Comini. The Finnish driver Antti Buri, who started from pole due to reversed grid, finished third.
Three Leopard Racing’s Volkswagen Golfs were in front from start to chequered flag. Vernay took the lead before the first turn and lost it only on Lap 4 from Comini, but Vernay returned in front on Lap 5 and remained there until the end. Buri defended his third place ahead of Mato Homola (B3 Racing) and yesterday’s winner Aku Pellinen (West Coast Racing).
Three Seat Leons of Craft Bamboo Lukoil, driven by James Nash, Pepe Oriola and Sergey Afanasyev, were on positions sixth to eighth for much of the race, but Afanasyev lost his place from Kevin Gleason on the last lap. Pierre-Yves Corthals completed the top 10 in the Ferry Monster’s Seat Leon Cup Racer.
Although they missed the podium results in the second race at Spa, Pepe Oriola, James Nash and Gianni Morbidelli stayed on the top of the driver’s standings. After six races Oriola is the leader with 84 points, Nash collected two points less and Morbidelli has 80 points. Pellinen is now fourth with 63 points, ahead of Comini (59 points). Vernay and Afanasyev are tied in the sixth place with 56 points.
The next TCR meeting is scheduled for two weeks at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola.
