Formula 3 at Spielberg: Victorious Sunday for Joel Eriksson
Joel Eriksson (Motopark) has won both Sunday’s races of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Red Bull Ring in Spelberg, Austria. He started both races from pole and converted it into victories number 5 and 6.
In the first Sunday’s race. Eriksson took the checkered flag ahead of championship leader Lando Norris (Carlin) and Nikita Mazepin (HitechGP). In the second race, Norris was again behind Eriksson until the last lap, when third-placed Ralf Aron attacked him and caused a collision. Both Aron and Norris were out of race, handing podium positions to Nikita Mazepin and his teammate Tadasuke Makino.
Prema Powerteam’s Maximilian Gunther, who is second in the championship standings, finished fifth in the second race, adding ten points to his account and retaining mathematical chances to fight for the title.
Ahead of championship finale at Hockenheimring on October 14-16, Norris has 74-points advantage. As 75 points are still to offer, his championship-winning celebration has to be prolonged.
