Porsche Supercup: Michael Ammermüller is finally the champion

Michael Ammermüller finally captures his first Porsche Supercup title in his sixth season of participation in the Porsche one-make series. The 31-year-old German takes two podiums in the season’s finale at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, behind double race winner Matt Campbell.

Ammermüller was second both in Saturday’s Race 1 and Sunday’s Race 2. The most important, in both races he was ahead of Dennis Olsen, his main rival in the championship fight. They came to Mexico with three points more on Ammermüller’s side. Olsen started from pole in Saturday’s race but finished behind Ammermüller.

In the second race, Campbell converted pole position into his fourth win of the season, finishing third in the final classification of the 2017 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Ammermüller and Olsen finished again on P2 and P3. Josh Webster was fourth in the Race 2, after Dam Cammish finished fourth in the Race 1.

Michael Ammermüller debuted in the Porsche Supercup in 2012, finishing 6th in the points. After that, he was always among the front-runners, finishing 3rd for three years in a row (2013, 2014, 2015). In 2016, he was fourth in the points and now he is finally celebrating his first title.
