2017 ROC Miami: Team Germany aka Team Vettel wins the Nations Cup
Sebastian Vettel wins the Nations Cup of the 2017 Race of Champions represesenting Team Germany as a one-man team after his teammate Pascal Wehrlein withdrew from a competition because of Saturday’s accident. In the Nations Cup final Vettel beats Team USA NASCAR formed by Busch brothers. In the first race, Vettel was faster than Kurt Busch driving the Ariel Atom, in the second duel Vettel was faster than Kyle Busch driving the GRC Lite car.
For Vettel, this is seventh victory in the ROC Nations Cup. In the previous occasions, he won six times in a row between 2007 and 2012 together with Michael Schumacher.
Ten teams were divided into three groups. Four North American teams competed in the Group A: Team USA NASCAR, Team USA IndyCar, Team USA Rally X and Team ROC Factor Canada. The best two progressed into semifinals: NASCAR brothers Kyle and Kurt Busch collected five wins, IndyCar stars Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay have won three times.
After Saturday’s accident, Pascal Wehrlein listened doctor’s advise and withdrew from the competition, so Sebastian Vettel formed one-man Team Germany. He was 100% successful in the Group B, winning all four races against Team GB (Jenson Button/David Coulthard) and Team Nordic (Petter Solberg/Tom Kristensen).
In the Group C, three teams scored two wins: Team Colombia, Team Brazil and Team ROC Factor Latin America. Colombians Juan Pablo Montoya and Gabby Chaves progressed into semifinals because they set the fastest lap time.
In the Semifinals, Colombians lost both duels against Team Germany aka Team Vettel. The second Semifinal battle between NASCAR and IndyCar drivers was resolved in the tie-break race between Alexander Rossi and Kurt Busch, in which the 38-year-old NASCAR driver was faster than last years Indy 500 winner.
