Super GT at Autopolis: Third win in a row for Lexus
The brand new Lexus LC500 scored its third win in a row in the 2017 Japanese Super GT Series today at Autopolis Circuit. The winners of Kyushu 300 race are Kazuki Nakajima and James Rossiter in the #36 Lexus of Lexus Team au Tom’s. It’s Nakajima’s 5th GT500 win in a career and sixth for his co-driver James Rossiter.
Nakajima and Rossiter beat two Honda NSX for their first win of the season. The #17 Keihin Honda, driven by Koudai Tsukakoshi and Takashi Kogure, made a fantastic progress after starting from P15 to finish in the second place, ahead of #100 Raybrig NSX. Team Kunimitsu’s Naoki Yamamoto and Takuya Izawa in the #100 Honda started from pole but they didn’t manage to convert it to better than third place.
Two Honda crews inherited their positions after a collision of #36 Lexus and #1 Lexus while fighting for the lead. The result of their contact was damaged Nakajima’s car and retirement for defending champion Kohei Hirate.
R&D Sport’s #61 Subaru BRZ, driven by Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi, started from P2 and ended a race in the same position. ARTA’s BMW M6 of Sean Walkinshaw and Shinichi Takagi earnes the lowest podium spot in GT300 class.
