Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat (#17 DJR Team Penske Ford Falcon) scored a fantastic victory in the second race of the Gold Coast 600 event at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, progressing from the 13th place on the grid and beating three Triple Eight Holdens. It’s the 15th career victory for McLaughlin and second for Premat, who won a year ago also at Surfers Paradise.

Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell finished second in the #88 Red Bull Holden Commodore. A podium results enable Whincup to take the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship lead after 22 races.

Another Red Bull Holden, the #97 of Shane van Gisbergen and Matthew Campbell, finished in the third place, ahead of #888 Team Vortex Holden of Craig Lowndes and Steven Richards.

The previous championship leader Fabian Coulthard finished ninth in the #12 Shell V-Power Racing Ford, he was sharing with Tony D’Alberto. Now, Whincup leads the championship with 17-point advantage over Coulthard (2580:2563). Scott McLaughlin is further 10 points down.

Yesterday’s winner Chaz Mostert, who finished seventh in Sunday’s race, is fourth in the championship, 99 points behind McLaughlin. After four different winners in four endurance races, Chaz Mostert and Steve Owen secure a victory in the Pirtek Enduro Cup.

The next championship round is the ITM Auckland SuperSprint at the Pukekohe Park Raceway on November 4-5.
