Maiden VLN victory for Dries Vanthoor and Markus Winkelhock

  • Dries Vanthoor and Markus Winkelhock

Dries Vanthoor and Markus Winkelhock are the winners of the 49th ADAC Barbarossapreis at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the 8th round of the 2017 VLN endurance series (Langstrecken Meisterschaft Nurburgring). A duo in the #28 Audi R8 LMS of Montaplast by Land-Motorsport won the 4-hour race ahead of Black Falcon’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Wochenspiegel Team Monschau’s Ferrari 488 GT3.

For both drivers in the #28 Audi it’s the maiden victory in the VLN series. The 19-year-old Belgian Dries Vanthoor achieved that in his first GT3 race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife but it’s more interesting that 37-year-old Markus Winkelhock has never won the VLN race before. In his rich GT racing career all over the world, Winkelhock has three wins at the 24 hours of Nürburgring, including victory in this year’s edition, but his today’s win is the first in the VLN.

The season’s finale of the VLN Langstrecken Meisterschaft Nürburgring will be the 42nd DMV Münsterlandpokal, scheduled for October 21.
