Jean-Eric Vergne (Techeetah) is the 2017-2018 FIA Formula E champion! The 28-year-old driver became the fourth champion in the fourth season of the electric single-seater series after finishing fifth in the first race of the New York City ePrix and securing enough points to take the title ahead of tomorrow’s last race of the season.

DS Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird, who was Vergne’s only rival in the championship fight, finished ninth in New York and he’s now 31 points behind the Frenchman.

The championship fight for Teams’ title is still wide opened after today’s 1-2 victory for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler. Lucas di Grassi scored his second win of the season, in front of Daniel Abt. The pole-sitter Sebastien Buemi (Renault e.dams) finished in the third place.

The other point scorers are Tom Dillmann (4th, Venturi), Nick Heidfeld (6th, Mahindra), Andre Lotterer (7th, Techeetah), Maro Engel (8th, Venturi) and Nico Prost (Renault e.dams).

Techeetah is entering Sunday’s race with a five-point advantage over Audi (235:230). Among the drivers, today’s winner Lucas di Grassi is sixteen points behind Sam Bird so he still can catch the second place in the championship.
