Red Bulls shine in the dark, SVG wins the Sydney SuperNight 300
Red Bull Holden’s Shane van Gisbergen wins the Sydney SuperNight 300 at Sydney Motorsport Park, the tenth round of the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
The driver of the #97 Holden Commodore has won a race ahead of teammate Jamie Whincup in the #1 Holden. DJR Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin finished third in the #17 Ford Falcon.
In the first Supercars race under the lights since 2010 when Yas Marina Circuit hosted the opening round of the championship, the championship leader Scott McLaughlin started from pole position but he couldn’t resist Red Bulls. Craig Lowndes finished fourth in the #888 Holden, ahead of Chaz Mostert in the #55 Ford Falcon and Rick Kelly in the #15 Nissan Altima.
Van Gisbergen’s victory leaves the championship fight wide open. He’s now 89 points down to leader Scott McLaughlin. The next Supercars round is the Bend SuperSprint and the Bend Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend, South Australia, scheduled for August 25-26.
