One more veteran on WTCR grid – Thompson joins Münnich Motorsport
British touring car legend James Thompson has been confirmed as the latest addition to the 2018 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup grid at series’ Media and test event at Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya.
The 43-year-old two-time BTCC champion, two-time ETCC champion and a winner of four WTCC races will drive a Honda Civic for ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport. Thompson is returning to the German team because he recorded his last racing outing with Münnich Motorsport’s Chevrolet Cruze in the 2016 WTCC season, participating in eight events.
Thompson is scheduled to drive Münnich Motorsport’s Honda Civic in five rounds of the inaugural WTCR season – in Morocco, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands and Portugal. Later will be announced who will drive in the next five rounds. Thompson’s teammates are Yann Ehrlacher and Esteban Guerrieri.
“I was sat at home when René Münnich called and asked if I fancy doing a few races. Well, it took me 30 seconds to make up my mind. It’s great and a real surprise. It’s really nice to be back. I remember it being a great team atmosphere from 2016. Everything is a little new but hopefully my experience and a little grey hair will pull me through,” James Thompson commented.
