IMSA: Two Porsche crews on the top at Virginia International Raceway
Porsche GT Team marks the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR, the tenth round of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
By winning the race at the Virginia International Raceway, that was reserved for GT cars only (GTLM and GTD), Porsche GT Team scored its sixth victory this year and secured the manufacturer’s title with two more races on a calendar.
The winners are Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy in the #911 Porsche 911 RSR, who defeated teammates Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor in the #912 Porsche. For a pair Pilet/Tandy it’s the third win this season. Bamber and Vanthoor already have three wins and they stayed in the championship lead with a slight advantage over their teammates.
Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia finished third in the #3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, in front of teammates Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin in the #4 Corvette. Two Ford GTs and two BMW M8s followed in the GTLM classification from P5 to P8.
Trent Hindman and Mario Farnbacher, who leads the GTD championship standings, finished second in the #86 Acura NSX GT3 of Meyer Shank Racing. Toni Vilander and Cooper MacNeil completed the GTD podium after finishing third in the #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3.
The next IMSA SportsCar Championship round would be the Monterey Grand Prix at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on September 15.
