24h Nürburgring: Black Falcon's Mercedes fastest in 2nd Qualifying
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 of Black Falcon was the fastest car in 2nd Qualifying round of 43rd ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nürburgring race. Combination of drivers from four nations (Yelmer Buurman-Netherlands, Andreas Simonsen-Sweden, Adam Christodoulou-UK, Bernd Schneider-Germany) was winning combination, they set absolutly best lap time 8.20.034.
Q2 started at 9.30 and situation with weather and track was similar as Thursday evening, because of wet asphalt and fog. But after two hours of running across 25-km track conditions improved and lap times became much better than in Free Practice and 1st Qualifying.
Best lap time was set in final seconds, as well as times of other top teams. Second was BMW Sport Trophy Team Marc VDS in no.26 BMW Z4 GT3, with crew Augusto Farfus/Jörg Müller/Nick Catsburg/Dirk Adorf. Their lap time is 8.22.908.
Bentley Boys in no.84 Continental GT3 was third fastest with lap time 8.24.455. Drivers of British brand is Jeroen Bleekemolen, Lance David Arnold, Christian Menzel and Christopher Brück. Second British manufacturer Aston Martin was shortly on P3 with no.007 Vantage GT3, but time was changed because of speed limit infringement.
After that Audi Sport Team WRT is promoted to fourth position. Their Audi R8 LMS no.29 set the lap time 8.24.626. One more Mercedes was in Top 5. Rowe Racing squad Maro Engel/Jan Seyffarth/Renger van der Zande/Thomas Jäger lapped the track in 8.25.945 minutes, about half a second faster than Audi no.1 of last year’s winner Audi Sport Team Phoenix.
Final Top 30 Qualifying session and battle for starting position for tommorow’s race is scheduled for today afternoon (17.10-17.50).
