ADAC F4 Championship: Joey Mawson wins third race at Oschersleben
Australian Joey Mawson (Van Amersfoort Racing) is the winner of the third race of ADAC F4 Championship at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. He won ahead of Tim Zimmermann (Neuhauser Racing) and Marek Böckmann (Jenzer Motorsport). Championship leader Marvin Dienst (HTP Junior Team) finished fourth.
Three ADAC F4 races were a part of a big DTM racing weekend and that was the reason why the third race was almost two hours late. In second DTM race Lucas Auer had a crash which damaged the safety barrier, so the next race could start only after the workers repaired it.
Jannes Fittje (Motopark) started from pole, due to reversed grid of Top 10 driver from first race yesterday. He started well but braked too much at Turn 1 and blocked the wheels, thus falling to fourth. Mawson, Zimmermann and Böckmann took the first three positions and remained there until the last lap. Behind their back Dienst was progressing through the field from 9th to 4th.
In penultimate lap Fittje and Mick Schumacher (Van Amersfoort Racing) were fifth and sixth. Young Schumi touched Fittje’s car and damaged both car, so the both drivers had to retire. That promoted Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport) to fifth, ahead Janneau Esmeijer (HTP Junior Team) and Michael Waldherr (Motopark). Joel Eriksson (Motopark), winner of previous two races at Oschersleben, finished ninth. Cedric Piro (Piro Sports) rounded Top 10.
In the championship standings Marvin Dienst remained in the lead ahead Joel Eriksson and Joey Mawson. Before the season finale at Hockenheim (2-4 October) Dienst has 310 points and Eriksson has 280. Mawson has 256 points and mathematically can be the champion, but it’s clear that Dienst or Eriksson will celebrate after Hockenheim.
