ADAC F4 Championship: Third race, third winner at Lausitzring
Marvin Dienst (HTP Junior Team) wins the third race of ADAC F4 Championship today at Lausitzring. He’s the third winner this weekend after Joey Mawson (Van Amersfoort Racing) won Race 1 and Joel Eriksson (Motorpark) won Race 2 yesterday.
After 12 races in the 2015 season, Joel Eriksson is still a leader of the championship standings with 163 points, four more than Mawson. Dienst is third with 129 points and Robert Shwartzman (Mucke Motorsport) fourth with 102 points.
Dienst earned his season’s third victory in the exciting last lap of the 30-minute race, after the Safety Car had been pulled out and just one lap remained. Until then, Mawson was the leader ahead of Shwartzman. The young Russian unsuccessfully attacked the Australian and went off-road but managed to get back to the track. Mawson was distracted and Dienst overtook him.
Behind the leading trio, Tim Zimmerman (Neuhauser Racing) overtook Mike Ortmann (Mucke Motorsport) in the last lap for fourth position. Others who finished with points included Jannes Fittje (6th, Motopark), Michael Waldherr (7th, Motopark), Marek Bockmann (8th, Jenzer Motorsport), Joel Eriksson (9th, Motopark) and Harrison Newey (Van Amersfoort). Eriksson made the biggest progress in the race because he started from the last (34th) grid position.
The starting grid was set by the results of yesterday’s Race 1 with the 10th placed driver on the 1st starting position. That was Jason Kremer, who started badly and soon was retired. Cedric Piro started from 2nd and was three laps behind Safety Car but was immediately overtaken by Mawson, Shwartzman and Dienst. Piro finished outside the points on 12th position.
There was three Safety Car interventions because of cars parked on the track or near the track. Fortunately there were no major incidents. Mick Schumacher retired in Lap 1 with broken rear suspension.
