The New Zealander Brendon Hartley, double world endurance champion and former Formula 1 driver who currently serves as Toyota Gazoo Racing’s driver in the FIA WEC, is expanding his racing commitments for the season 2019/2020 by entering the FIA Formula E Championship with Geox Dragon Racing.

The all-American Dragon Racing is one of the teams that participated in all five seasons of the Formula E. Hartley will be their ninth driver so far in the electric single-seater championship. The other driver for the 2019/20 season is yet to be confirmed. In the fifth season, Dragon Racing finished 10th in the teams’ standings with neither frontman Jose-Maria Lopez, rookie Maximilian Gunther, or his replacement Felipe Nasr making it onto the podium.

“I’m happy to be taking on a new challenge in Formula E together with Geox Dragon racing. Formula E is totally different from any other race series I’ve been in, but I am hoping my experience in many categories with energy management will pay dividends and give me a head start as a rookie.

I’ve always been a fan of street tracks and Formula E has some of the wildest I’ve seen. That together with some of the best drivers and manufacturers in the world makes it an exciting place to be.

“I’ve already started working with most of the Geox Dragon team, and I have a strong feeling that we can share some good success together in the coming season,” Brendon Hartley said.
