2015 BTCC - Race 3 at Rockingham: Plato beats Ingram for fifth win

Jason Plato (Team BMW, Volkswagen CC) secured his fifth season’s victory in the final race of BTCC weekend at Rockingham. Plato won after a fantastic battle with Tom Ingram (Speedworks Motorsport, Toyota Avensis). Plato’s team-mate Colin Turkington finished third.

Young Ingram started from pole and defended his position in the first lap. After that he was under constant attacks from Plato, who started from 4th and jumped to 2nd immediately after the start. Plato was on Ingram’s tail but youngster had successful defensive moves until lap 14. It was just before the second Safety Car outing. After the restart Plato built solid gap and won with 1,2 seconds gap.

Colin Turkington was third from start to finish, same as Matt Neal (Honda Yuasa) at fourth position.  Five drivers was on fifth position during the race and finally Sam Tordoff crossed the finish line after 19 laps, ahead Aron Smith (Team BMR). Rob Austin‘s Audi A4 finished 7th, ahead Gordon Shedden in Civic Type R. Andrew Jordan (MG Triple Eight) and Josh Cook (Power Maxed Racing) rounded the Top 10.

Gordon Shedden came to Rockingham with 11 points deficit to Jason Plato and leaving the famous circuit with six points advantage after three races. There are two more BTCC weekends (Silverstone and Brands Hatch), so the championship battle is far from over. Third placed Matt Neal is 21 points shorter than Plato and Colin Turkington is further six points down. Andrew Jordan is fifth with 13 points less than Turkington.
