BTCC - Silverstone: Pole position for Mat Jackson
Mat Jackson (Motorbase Performance) scored his second pole position in 2015 British Touring Car Championship today at Silverstone. Jackson’s Ford Focus will start the first race of the penultimate round of BTCC season sharing the front row with Gordon Shedden‘s Honda Civic Type R, while Sam Tordoff in the BMW 125i M Sport and Andrew Jordan in the MG6 GT will start from the second row.
Jackson totally dominated in qualifying session at Silverstone and set four lap times quicker than any other driver. He also set new lap record with the time of 58:078, two tenths of a second quicker than Gordon Shedden in maximum ballast-laden Civic. Qualifying was red-flagged shortly after start when Alex Martin‘s Ford Focus had spun off at Maggotts. Jackson continued his domination after the restart, ahead of three championship contenders Shedden, Tordoff and Jordan. Dave Newsham suprisingly finished fifth with Power Maxed Chevrolet Cruze, relegating reigning champion Colin Turkington in Team BMR’s Volkswagen CC down to sixth.
Turkington was the quickest of three Volkswagen drivers, with Aron Smith finished 8th and Jason Plato 10th. Team BMR chief/driver Warren Scott didn’t took part in the qualifying after accident in Free Practice. He suffered two fractured vertebrae and was treated at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Tom Ingram finished seventh with Speedworks Toyota between Turkington and Smith, while Jack Goff‘s MG ended the session in ninth place between Smith and Plato. One more championship contender Matt Neal finished only 11th.
Three races of round 9 are scheduled for tomorrow at 11.57, 14.31 and 17.17.
