BTCC - Silverstone: Colin Turkington wins Race 3

Colin Turkington in Team BMR’s Volkswagen CC is the winner of third BTCC race today at Silverstone. After three winners in three races at the penultimate round of British Touring Car Championship we are entering the Brands Hatch final round (10-11 October) with five more title contenders. Gordon Shedden (Honda Yuasa Racing) is the leader with 325 points, 23 more than Jason Plato. With the victory at Silverstone, Turkington jumped to third and with 293 points he is five points ahead of Matt Neal (Honda). Fifth placed Andrew Jordan (Triple Eight Racing) is 64 points behind Shedden, so mathematically he is still in the game.

Turkington scored his fourth season’s win with a perfect performance, after starting from third and grabbed the lead in Lap 2. Rob Collard and Sam Tordoff in West Surrey Racing’s BMWs chased the leader but also had to worry about attacks from behind, where Plato and Shedden were fourth and fifth respectively. In Lap 19 Tordoff passed over Collard but in last lap they were back in previous order.

Matt Neal finished sixth, ahead of Mat Jackson (Motorbase Perfomance), who made a massive progress through the field from 23rd to 7th. Adam Morgan (Wix Racing Mercedes), James Cole (Triple Eight MG) and Aiden Moffat (Laser Tools Mercedes) rounded Top 10. Race was interrupted with one Safety car intervention after an incident in Lap 2, when Dan Welch and Hunter Abbott crashed.
