DS Virgin confirms Sam Bird and Jean-Eric Vergne
Bird, a 28-year-old British driver has managed to retain his place after an excellent finish in the inaugural season in which he picked two victories and three podium finishes.
Vergne, a 25-year-old former Formula 1 driver from France, should be a great addition to the squad as he has had a good season with three podium finishes and three pole positions as a driver of Andretti Formula E team.
“Last season was learning a curve but one that I thoroughly enjoyed; I am elated to be back with the DS Virgin Racing team for the new season. We had two great wins last season in Malaysia and London, my home ground. The aim is to build on that success and have a fantastic second season in Formula E with the exciting advancements to the car around the powertrain,” commented Sam Bird.
Jean-Eric Vergne is just as delighted about joining the new team: “This is an exciting time for the team and also for the series given the new regulations for season two. With the DS brand coming on board as a new partner and a forward thinking marque, I am looking forward to being a new partner to the team. I am confident that my raw pace and appetite for success will help ensure that DS Virgin Racing continues to be one of the leading teams in Formula E.”
DS Virgin Racing Team principal Alex Tai is also very optimistic ahead of new season: “We are thrilled to retain Sam and and to be able to welcome Jean-Eric for the season two of the FIA Formula E championship. Both of them are exceptional talents and I believe we now have one of the strongest driver pairings on the grid. I am very happy the good news for the team keeps on coming.”
