European rally weekend: Second ERC win in a row for Alexey Lukyanuk
The European rally stages were full this weekend with many national and regional rally championships but also with the second round of the 2018 FIA European Rally Championship taking place at Spanish Canary Islands.
The winner of the 42nd Rally Islas Canarias is Alexey Lukyanuk from Russia. It’s his second win of the season in a Ford Fiesta R5 after he won the season-opening round at Portuguese Azores islands. Lukyanuk and his navigator Alexey Arnautov took the win at Canary Islands ahead of another Russian crew Nikolay Gryazin/Yaroslav Fedorov in a Škoda Fabia R5. The German crew Fabian Kreim/Frank Christian finished third in Škoda Fabia R5.
Among other rally events this weekend in Europe there were some regional and national meetings. The Italian crew Giandomenico Basso/Lorenzo Granai in a Škoda Fabia R5 won the Transilvania Rally in Romania, a part of the Tour European Rally Series. Basso defeated Simone Tempestini (Citroen DS3 R5) by twenty seconds.
The Rally Opatija in Croatia was a part of the Mitropa Cup, Central European Zone Championship and Croatian championship. The winners are Rok Turk and his navigator Blanka Kacin from Slovenia. A pair in a Peugeot 208 T16 defeated Croatians Vilim Prodan/Zoran Raštegorac (Škoda Fabia R5) by eleven seconds. The third-placed driver was Hungarian Antal Kovacs in a Ford Fiesta R5.
The Targa Florio – Rally Internazionale di Sicilia was a part of the Italian rally championship. Andrea Nucita/Marco Vozzo (Hyundai i20 R5) won the rally ahead of Paolo Andreucci/Anna Andreussi (Peugeot 208 T16).
The German town Sulingen was a host of the ADAC Rallye – Rund um die Sulinger Bärenklaue. It was a part of the German and Dutch national championships. The winner is Dominik Dinkel in a Škoda Fabia R5, who defeated Christian Riedemann in another Škoda by just eight seconds.
In Norway, the Rally Sørland was the fourth round of the national championship. Anders Grondal is a winner in a Ford Fiesta R5.
