F3 European Championship: First win of the season for Lance Stroll
Canadian Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam) scored his first victory of the season in FIA Formula 3 European Championship today at Hockenheimring. The last weekend of the season started perfect for Prema Powerteam, with 1-2-3-4 in qualifying and the same after the first race, with slightly modified positions. Jake Dennis started fourth and finished second, ahead new F3 champion Felix Rosenqvist, who started from pole but lost two places against team-mates. Maximilian Günther scored fourth place in his debut for Prema Powerteam.
As championship title is secured by Felix Rosenqvist, all focus is on battle for second place. Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagony Ayam with Carlin) remained on that position after finishing sixth in Race 1. He increased the gap in front of Charlec Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing), who finished eight, to ten points. After finishing second in Race 1 Jake Dennis moved closer to Leclerc and now has only 11.5 points less. With two more races at Hockenheim all three are still in the game for runner-up championship place.
Alexander Sims (Hitech GP) had a good race and finished fifth. He started fifth but lost two placed after the start. Later he overtook Leclerc and Giovinazzi. Other drivers who scored some points are George Russell (7th, Carlin), Markus Pommer (9th, Motopark) and Santino Ferrucci (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport). 33 drivers started the race and three of them felt of in the opening lap (Zhi Cong Li, Wing Chung Chang and Raoul Hyman), caused one Safety Car intervention. Rest of the race lasted without problems.
One more race is scheduled for afternoon at 16.05 and one for tomorrow at 10.45. Poleman for Race 2 is Antonio Giovinazzi, while Jake Dennis will start from pole in Race 3.
