Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup: Aitken and Jörg winners at Silverstone

Rich programme of World Series by Renault at Silverstone after two races of  Formula Renault 3.5 Series and Renault Sport Trophy was rounded with two races of Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. Starting from pole position in Race 1, Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP) held on to his advantage to take his second victory of the season ahead of rookie Harrison Scott (AVF) and team mate Jake Hughes (Koiranen GP). Race 2 was a bit of a different story with Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing), leaping from third on the grid to score his first triumph in the category since Moscow last year. The Swiss native finished ahead of Jack Aitken and Jake Hughes.

In the Race 1 when the lights went out, Jack Aitken held on to the command of the race, but the red flag was shown on the opening lap following the spectacular accidents of the Fortec Motorsports entries of Jehan Daruvala, Ben Barnicoat and Ferdinand Habsburg. The race re-started behind the safety car. When the action resumed, Jack Aitken controlled then pulled away from Harrison Scott and Kevin Jörg, who was under pressure from Darius Oskoui (ART Junior Team), who found an opening on lap five.

Jack Aitken took his second success of the season ahead of Harrison Scott, who scored the best result for a rookie so far this season. Jake Hughes completed the podium after overtaking Kevin Jörg and Darius Oskoui on lap 11. Sixth place Dennis Olsen (Manor MP Motorsport) was followed to the line by Martin Kodric (Fortec Motorsports), Callan O’Keeffe (Fortec Motorsports) and Louis Delétraz. Wild-card entry, Will Palmer (ART Junior Team) rounded out the top ten, ahead of Thiago Vivacqua (JD Motorsport).

In race 2, Jack Aitken was passed by Kevin Jörg and Ben Barnicoat at the start. Behind the leading trio it was Jake Hughes and Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team), who overtook successively Dennis Olsen, Harrison Scott and Louis Delétraz in the opening minutes of the race. On lap nine, Ben Barnicoat lost pace, which let Jack Aitken and Jake Hughes get by.

Kevin Jörg went on for a comfortable win in front of Jack Aitken and Jake Hughes. Ukyo Sasahara was fourth ahead of  Thiago Vivacqua, Dennis Olsen and the best placed rookie Darius Oskoui. Louis Delétraz, Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing) and Callan O’Keeffe all finished in the points.

Provisional general classification after today’s races: 1. Delétraz – 116 points, 2. Hughes – 106, 3.  Jörg – 105, 4. Aitken – 91, 5. Hubert – 74…

Race 3 is scheduled for tomorrow at 14.05.
