Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup: One more win for Lando Norris
Lando Norris (Josef Kaufmann Racing) wins Race 3 of the opening round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup at the Motorland Aragon. It’s his second victory in a competition which he enters as a rookie, after he won Saturday’s Race 2. The 16-year old British driver, the last year’s champion of the MSA Formula 4 championship, with two victories at Aragon clearly shows his intentions to add one more title to his CV.
Norris started from pole and dominantly defended his lead ahead of Max Defourny (R-ace GP/ART Junior Team), crossing the finish line with 1.274 gap ahead of 17-year old Belgian driver. Although Defourny made a fastest lap and tried to attack Norris few times, he lost the rhytm in the second part of the race and had to be satisfied with a second place. Harrison Scott (AV Formula) started and finished in third place. The championship order after three races are the same as in the race – Norris, Defourny and Scott.
The starting order of the top 10 drivers almost remained unchanged until the end of race. Dorian Boccolacci (Tech 1 Racing) finished fourth, ahead of Nikita Troitskiy (Fortec Motorsports), Bruno Baptista (Fortec Motorsports) and Julien Falchero (R-ace GP). Alexey Korneev (JD Motorsport) started ninth and took the eight place from Robert Shwartzman (Josef Kaufmann Racing), which was the only change in top 10. Vasily Romanov (Fortec Motorsports) took the last point in the tenth place.
Twenty-three drivers started the race and all of them reached the finish. There were few spins and contacts but without interruptions in the race. The only girl among boys, Polish Julia Pankiewicz, spun in the early phase of the race and finished in the last place.
The next round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup is scheduled for May 29 at Monaco.
