Formula Renault 3.5 Series: New champion's record 8th victory

Newly crowned Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsport) scored his 8th victory of the season today at World Series by Renault finale at Jerez. It is a record number of victories in one season, with one more race scheduled for tomorrow.


Rowland started from the front row, together with poleman Tom Dillmann (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin). Race started with Safety car because of bad weather conditions. After green flag in Lap 3 Dillmann remained in the lead, while Rowland was fighting with Egor Orudzhev (Arden Motorsport). In Lap 10 both of them overtook Dillman, whose race was ruined one lap later with rear left tyre puncture. Rowland defended his lead ahead Orudzhev. Matthieu Vaxiviere (Lotus) finished third.


Nyck De Vries (DAMS)  had a good race and progressed from seventh to fourth, ahead Tio Ellinas (Strakka Racing). Other points scorers are Jazeman Jaafar (Fortec Motorsports), Nicholas Latifi (Arden Motorsport), Andre Negrao (International Draco Racing), Roy Nissany (Tech 1 Racing) and Yu Kanamaru (Pons Racing).


Rowland’s and Vaxiviere’s championship standings positions was secured, but the fight for third place is stil open. With Tom Dillmann and Dean Stoneman not finishing the race Nyck De Vries jumped to third place. One more race at Jerez is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
