Formula Renault 3.5: Vaxiviere and Rowland share the glory in Austria

Matthieu Vaxiviere (Lotus) triumphed in the second race of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series today at Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. Vaxiviere started from pole and defended his lead till the end of the race in a close fight with Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsport).

Rowland wasn’t too aggressive as he was satisfied with the win in the earlier race of the day. He seemed to be content with his second spot.  Rowland and Vaxiviere stayed first and second in the championship standings, with a 26-point-diference, far away from the third placed Jazeman Jaafar (Fortec Motorsport), who was ninth in today’s second race.

Roy Nissany (Tech 1 Racing) achieved his first podium this season. He started fourth and immediately at the start jumped to third, ahead Nyck de Vries (DAMS). The Young Dutch later lost one more place against Pietro Fantin (International Draco Racing). Marlon Stockinger (Lotus) started fifth and finished sixth, ahead Gustav Malja (Strakka Racing), Tom Dillmann (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) and Jazeman Jaafar.

The only female driver in the race, Beitske Visser (AVF) had a fantastic race and achieved her second Top 10 finish this season, despite starting from the last row and in the 19th place.
