Hamilton wins pole position in Monaco

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton wins pole position for Monaco Grand Prix leaving his teammate Nico Rosberg second. This qualifying session wasn’t so interesting as “Silver Arrows” again were dominant.


In the first round best result achieved Nico Rosberg – 1:16.528, in front of his teammate Lewis Hamilton who was just 0.060 seconds slower. Five drivers which failed to make Q2 were Manor’s duo Roberto Merhi and Will Stevens, Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr and, surprisingly, Valtteri Bottas in Williams.




For the first time this season, both McLaren’s qualified to the second round what undoubtely gives them confidence, but soon after start of Q2, Fernando Alonso had to retire after mechanical problems. Another four drivers which stayed out of third round of the qualifications were Alonso’s teammate Jenson Button, Felipe Massa (Williams), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) and Romain Grosjean (Lotus) who will be moved back five places at the start of the race because of gearbox change.


Nico Rosberg again was fastest with 1:15.471 but Mercedes’ driver made one big mistake which luckilly didn’t cost him too much. Hamilton had second best time, while duo of Ferraris were on third and fourth before the Q3.




In the last round reigning champion proved that he is currently the best. He set time 1:15. 098 leavng Rosberg 0.342 seconds behind. From the second row in Sunday race will start Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo. Daniil Kvyat will start from fifth, Kimi Raikkonen from sixth, while the fourth row is reserved for Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz. Ninth was Pastor Maldonado and Max Verstappen finshed tenth.
