Honda parts ways with Tarquini
Gabriele Tarquini will not be Honda factory driver in the 2016 World Touring Cars Championship season. That probably means that the WTCC career of 53-year-old Italian has ended.
Decision made by Japanese manufacturer is expected as Tarquini failed to score a single race win this year, for the first time in his long career.
“I absolutely respect Honda’s decision for next year, but my ambition is still to race in 2016. I am exploring options, but on the other side i am negotiating with Honda about possibility to stay involved in their WTCC programme outside WTCC. I am proud of being part of Honda’s return to the series and wish them all the luck,” said Tarquini.
Honda refreshes drivers line-up
Robert Watherston, Honda Motor Europe Head of Motorsports, commented that their intention was to refresh drivers line-up.
“We are incredibly grateful for everything Gabriele Tarquini did for Honda throughout his career. He helped a lot in effort of improving current Honda Civic and was excellent servant to the team. Now we are looking at other possibilities within the Honda family for him. Soon we will announce more changes in our drivers line-up as we reset our sights on next year’s championship,” said Watherston.
