Hyundai i30 is ready for TCR debut with veterans Tarquini and Menu
After months of preparations, the Hyundai i30 N TCR is ready for a debut. Hyundai Motorsport announced today that the brand new race car will enter both remaining rounds of the 2017 TCR International Series season, in October in China and in November in Abu Dhabi.
Hyundai Motorsport and their development partner BRC Racing will run two cars for Gabriele Tarquini and Alain Menu. Tarquini is involved into a development of the car from the beginning as the lead test driver. The experience gained from the race weekends with two touring car veterans will allow the team to finalise the set-up for the car before starting a production for customer teams. Hyundai intends to deliver first chassis to customers in early December.
Gabriele Tarquini and Alain Menu completed a two-day test last week at the Circuit de Valencia. Both cars at the test appeared as they will at TCR International Series events, with final specification bodywork and the race colour scheme. The livery brings together the N logo and Hyundai Motorsport’s traditional colours.
“As our first car designed specifically for circuit racing the i30 N TCR is a milestone for Hyundai Motorsport. Despite that challenge the Customer Racing department has produced a strong package for the regulations, which will only improve further with the development work continuing through the races this year.
The debut in the TCR International Series is a big moment for the project. Coming in China, alongside the TCR Asia Series, the weekend is the ideal event to show the potential of the i30 N TCR to teams and drivers. The look of the cars ties the i30 N TCR very closely to the N line-up of road models, so a strong performance would promote both the racecar and the standard models,” Hyundai Motorsport Team Principal Michel Nandan said.
