IMSA announces new sponsor and 2016 schedule

The IMSA Series gets a new name for the new season after WeatherTech became its new entitlement partner.

The new official name of the series which is to start from 1st of November, is the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. WeatherTech is Illinois-based manufacturer of premium vehicle floor mats and other car accessories. Its current main sponsor TUDOR remains active in the series as an Official Timepiece of IMSA.

“We want this to be the new golden era of sports car racing in America, and I want WeatherTech to be a big part of it. It is my intention to use our marketing horsepower to elevate the awareness of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship to the general public. We want to increase our fan base for the betterment of the teams, the sponsors and finally the drivers,” said David MacNail, founder and CEO of WeatherTech, who is also an accomplished racer.

Daytona 24 Hours IMSA

The 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule was also announced and it has 12 events. The new season starts on the 30th of January with 24 Hours of Daytona, while the last race is the Petit Le Mans in Georgia on the 1st of October.

April 16: Tequila Patron Sports Car Showcase at Long Beach
May 1: Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix
June 4: Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
July 3: Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen
July 10: Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix presented by Hawk Performance
July 23: Northeast Grand Prix Lime Rock Park
August 7: Continental Tire Road Race Showcase
August 21: Oak Tree Grand Prix
September 17: Lone Star Le Mans
October 1: Petit Le Mans Powered by Mazda
