Formula E team Mahindra Racing announced Oliver Rowland as a replacement for injured Nick Heidfeld for Punta del Este ePrix.

Third round of the second Formula E season will go on 19th of December and Mahindra team was forced to make one change in drivers line-up. Nick Heidfeld, who scored 17 points in two previous rounds, had a minor hand surgery which rules him out of travel to Uruguay.

That’s why, 23-year-old British driver Oliver Rowland will get a chance and he will partner experienced Bruno Senna. Rowland will go through intensive simulator sessions before going to Uruguay and there he will try to emulate success from Formula Renault 3.5 series in which he won eight races last season.

“After a successful year, I am excited to have this opportunity to extend my season further. Formula E represents many aspects of the future of motorsport and it gained huge traction in the first season. It has one of the most competitive driver line-ups and I am looking forward to some close racing among them and I hope to show what I can do. It will be a steep learning curve to get to grips with the new electric racing technology but I’m sure that once the visor goes down we will have some fun,” said 23-year old Rowland.
