Japanese Super Formula: De Oliveira wins at Fuji Speedway
Brazilian driver Joao Paulo Lima de Oliveira has won the 3rd round of the Japanese Championship Super Formula at the Fuji Speedway. After 55 laps, Lenovo Team Impul’s driver crossed the finish line 15 seconds ahead Kazuki Nakajima and 22 seconds ahead Hiroaki Ishiura.
Behind the leading trio there were three cars with minimum gap – Yuji Kunimoto, Andre Lotterer and Ryo Hirakawa. Eight drivers get the point, so others who finished points included James Rossiter and Tomoki Nojiri. De Oliveira’s team-mate Andrea Caldarelli, who started from pole-position, finished ninth and gets only one point for pole.
A total of 19 drivers took part in the race but only 16 of them finished the race. Two Nakajima Racing’s drivers Bertrand Baguette and Daisuke Nakajima didn’t reach the finish, as well as former F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan in Docomo Dandelion’s car.
After three different winners in three races (Suzuka, Okayama, Fuji) the championship leader is Hiroaki Ishiura with 21 points. Just two points shorter are De Oliveira, third placed Kazuki Nakajima has 16 points and fourth placed Andre Lotterer has 15 points. The next championship race is scheduled for August 22-23 at Twin Ring Motegi.
