Lechner Racing is an Austrian racing team founded by Austrian racing driver Walter Lechner in 2003. However, the full history of Lechner Racing started in 1975 when Walter Lechner raced for the first time. During the eighties, he formed a Lechner Racing School dedicated to young and perspective drivers and giving them a chance to prove their skills and get the needed experience for advancing in the world of professional motorsport. Walter Lechner was also a five time champion of Interserie championship competing against famous drivers such as Klaus Ludwig and Hans-Joachim Stuck.
With racing experience this long it is not surprising that in 2003 the Lechner Racing was formed and started competing in Porsche cup championships, mostly the Porsche Supercup. The success came very quickly and in 2005 the Lechner Racing won the Porsche Supercup championship with Italian driver Alessandro Zampedri. That title was won again in 2010 and 2011 with German driver Rene Rast and again in 2014 with Australian driver Earl Bamber. The 2014 season was very successful since the Austrian driver Phillip Eng won the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany driving for Lechner Racing. This means that Lechner Racing team was undisputed king of Porsche cup racing in 2014 winning two most competitive and difficult of all Porsche cup series in the world. Beside cup championships, Lechner Racing team is involved in International GT Open and GT4 European Series but with less success. However, since there are almost 40 years of racing experience behind the Lechner Racing team, it is safe to say that this racing outfit will be dominant force in Porsche cup championships in years to come and will continue to produce great drivers and high results on some of Europe’s best tracks.
