Lopez and Chilton fastest in free practices at Buriram
Jose Maria Lopez and Tom Chilton were the fastest during free practices before the inaugural WTCC Race of Thailand.
Reigning champion and championship leader Lopez beat Mehdi Bennani during FP1 by 0.299s, while Sebastian Loeb completed Citroen top-three. Honda’s drivers Norbert Michelisz and Gabriele Tarquini were fourth and fifth respectively, while Nicky Catsburg on sixth was the best placed Lada driver.
Tom Chilton in the Chevrolet surprised in FP2, with a lap time 1:38.881, while Tarquini was just 0.078s behind. Norbert Michelisz and Tiago Monteiro on third and fourth confirmed a good session for Honda, while Mehdi Bennani on fifth was the best placed Citroen driver.
The next track action is at 10AM local time on Sunday when the battle for the pole position gets underway with qualifying.
