Manor Marussia confirms Merhi as second driver
Second driver of Manor Marussia in 2015 Formula 1 season will be Roberto Merhi, 23 years old Spaniard. He will drive alongside England’s Will Stevens at first race of the season in Australia next weekend.
Merhi previously raced in Formula Renault 3.5 Series, but also gained some Formula 1 experince last year with three practice outings with Caterham team. According to former Marussia team, he will compete in the opening rounds of the season with a chance to remain in the seat in the rest of season.
“I hope to pay back the hard work of the team with a solid weekend”, Merhi said.
Manor Marussia team secured place in the competition last week after coming out of administration thanks to investments of Stephen Fitzpatrick, boss of energy firm Ovo, and Justin King, former Sainsbury’s boss.
King’s son Jordan (21) will also join the team as a test driver. He currently competes in GP2, feeder series of Formula 1.
“This is another great step closer to my ultimate goal of racing in Formula 1”, Jordan King said.
