Mercedes back on track

As it was expected, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton significantly improved their performance and were fastest in the second Free Practice at Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain.

After huge underperforming at first Free Practice, Mercedes’ duo went on the top in the night session when the temperature went down and conditions were much better than in the first Free Practice. Rosberg had best lap time with 1:34.467, while Hamilton had second best time (1:34.762).

Both Ferraris were fast again, but not enough to finish in front their main rivals. Kimi Raikkonen was third and Sebastian Vettel had fourth fastest lap with small margin in front of Valtteri Bottas in Williams and Daniel Ricciardo in Red Bull.

Near the end of the practice, Vettel was involved in a small incident with Force India’s Sergio Perez which briefly brought out the red flag as debris was removed from the circuit.

Coming down to Turn 1, Perez dived inside Felipe Nasr’s Sauber, which was running to the left; Vettel, having exited the pits, was on the inside, and Perez, in the middle, caught the Ferrari’s left front wing endplate as he turned in. Vettel immediately reported over the radio that he had lost braking, but the incident will be investigated thoroughly by the stewards. The stewards are also investigating Hamilton and Raikkonen for leaving the pit lane incorrectly when the session resumed.

Some signs of improvement were seen by McLaren as Fernando Alonso finished 12th. But Jenson Button again had a tough time. This time his car ground to a halt at Turn 11 and even it was retrieved, he wasn’t able to improve on that and ended the session 19th.
