Muller wins race 2 at Nurburgring

  • Yvan Muller in Citroen C-Elysee WTCC

Citroen driver Yvan Muller wins the race two of World Touring Car Championship at Nurburgring.

Second race was even more spectacular than the first one despite three drivers didn’t started due to mechanical problems. Muller immediately moved to second and at the end of the first lap he take over Tiago Monteiro, who had a pole position, to sit on top and stay there until the end. Norbert Michelisz retired first after mechanical problems with his Honda, same as Stefano D’Aste in the lap two.

Muller’s experience was vital in this race just as quality of his C-Elysee. Other Citroens pushed hard to move from the middle of the grid, but they were a bit impatient or too aggressive, so Sebastien Loeb made a few mistakes which slowed him in attempt to move into top 5.

A moment of low concentration proved costly for Ma Qing Hua who slided out of the track and went into the barriers in the last lap and missed a chance to win important points as he was fourth in that moment.

Hondas were very close to the leader in the last lap, but Frenchmen kept his nerves to save first place. Jose Maria Lopez managed to surpass both Hondas in the final straight line finishing as a runner-up, leaving Monteiro third and Gabriele Tarquini fourth.

Fifth has finished Sebastien Loeb, Mehdi Bennani was sixth, while Rob Huff was seventh. Remaining points are won by Tom Coronel, Jaap Van Lagen and John Filippi.
