At the final round of Maserati Trofeo World Series at Yas Marina Circuit, the Italian manufacturer introduced a completely new race car for 2016 season. GranTurismo MC GT4 is based on a car which was used for the last five years in Trofeo World Series and will be sold to ten teams in two international competitions: European GT4 Series and North American Pirelli World Challenge. With the new car, Maserati will return to GT4 category for first time since 2009.

New aerodynamics and little less horsepowers

Compared to Trofeo-spec car, the main modifications made on GT4 car concern the engine and aerodynamics. On the first look the GT4 is almost identical to its older brother. Up front and from the sides, the cars are the same, with the only changes being noticeable on the back, with newly-designed wing and a modified diffuser.

The engine remained unchanged, but the 4700cc V8 powerplant has little less horsepowers. From 488 bhp power has been reduced to 430 bhp. Electro-actuated transmission with paddle-shift commands and kerb weight of 1410 kg stays the same.

20 cars already ordeded

Maserati announced that it will back private teams in two GT4 series in Europe and United States. Twenty cars for 10 teams were already ordered, but the names of the teams weren’t published. Maserati will be tracking the performance of the teams competing in Europe and the USA and will shortly provide details for a special award for the best Maserati driver and team.

“The Pirelli World Challenge, and the new European GT4 series, is an excellent opportunity for Maserati and all those teams and clients who want to race with a marque steeped in character and history. The budget is accessible and the series highly competitive and professional,” said Roberto Bozzi, Sales &ampMarketing Motorsport Manager for Maserati.
