A Volkswagen Beetle Supercar will race in the FIA World Rallycross Championship for the first time at Holjes, Sweden next month, where Norway’s Daniel Holten will drive a new Eklund Motorsport built car with number 53.

Led by rallycross and rally legend Per Eklund, Eklund Motorsport are best known for running Saab 9-3 Supercars in World RX events. Eklund believes the new Beetle has potential, and is confident in Holten, who raced to semi-final positions in the Swedish and Norwegian rounds of World RX last season, driving an Olsbergs MSE Ford Fiesta. Project with VW Beetle started at 2013 and now finally the car is ready.

Holten has made several Supercar appearances since moving from Super1600 and is hoping to use the Holjes event to build on a future with the Eklunds team.

“The Swedish World RX round is maybe the most prestigious race in the whole of World RX. To get to drive a car for Eklund Motorsport and with Per Eklund as coach is huge for me. The aim is to compete with a Supercar in the European and World Championships.  The result of what happens at Holjes will decide how it develops furtherperhaps we will also race at the Norwegian World RX round at Hell in August”, said Holten.
