Saturday was a busy day for Porsche Carrera Cup Germany Oschersleben event as the morning hosted qualifying session and the afternoon hosted the first race of the weekend. The weather was fine, almost ideal, which helped drivers in achieving best times. The pole position for afternoon’s race was won by Phillip Eng with a time of 1:28.991 minutes . Right behind him in the first row of the grid was Sven Muller. Third was Alex Riberas. In one moment, Eng’s qualifying session was cut short when he experienced problems with the cooling of his car, however, by that moment he already achieved the best time so he moved to the pits.

The race started at 16:00 CET with a decent start from all the drivers. Phillip Eng jumped first and Muller was close behind. Alex Riberas was third and as the drivers approached the first corner, fist two cars went without problems but Ammermuller on fourth tried to pass Riberas on the inside and hit him, causing Riberas to spin and cause havoc on the track as all the other cars was jammed behind them. Eng and Muller went forward without distraction but the rest of the field was left behind trying to avoid crashing into Riberas and Ammermuller. Safety car did not enter the track but very soon Ammermuller and later Riberas retired, followed by Engelhart. None of the cars was badly damaged but debris and pieces of the plastic were everywhere and caused a lot of punctures for the rest of the drivers. However, Eng and Muller was far behind and on third was Robert Renauer and fourth was talented Ben Baker who managed to advance because of the crashes of the drivers in front of him.  Eng’s driving was confident and he never lost concentration even with Muller breathing on his neck. So after 17 laps, Austrian Ace first saw the checkered flag on the finish in an interesting race full of crashes. Full results are HERE and stay tuned for coverage of race 2 tomorrow!
