Porsche Carrera Cup Germany Spielberg – race 1

  • Porsche Carrera Cup Germany Spielberg – race 1 Phillip Eng

Phillip Eng managed to bag his fifth win of the 2015 Carrera Cup  Germany today on his home soil in Spielberg Austria at the famous Red Bull Ring.

Eng had been dominant from the start of the weekend, scoring the best time in the practice session and qualifying for today’s race. So, his winning the race is not exactly a surprise, but the rest of the race is. There were some accidents and bad starts and the line up of the drivers from the beginning was not same as at the end of the 14 laps race.

The start of the race was interesting because it mixed up the overall standingsEng and the top positioned drivers managed a good start but in the middle of the field there were some problems. Nicki Thiim was one of the drivers who had bad start and continued the race from 19th position.

Robert Renauer who started from fourth position managed to move up to second position and keep it ahead of Christian Engelhart. Soon, there was an problem with Michael Ammermuller who spun off track after a collision with Sven Muller causing the safety car be called in. The race was over for them. Eng did make some lead but the safety car brought other drivers close to him.

In the middle of the grid, there were a few very interesting battles between Jeffrey Schmidt and Engelhart and  Mattia Drudi, a young Italian guest driver who showed a lot of potential racing against a much more experienced driver and holding on to his position. He finished fifth, just behind Schmidt on fourth position and in front of Ben Baker.
