Porsche Supercup Austria - practice

The Porsche Mobile 1 Supercup series is moving to Austria this weekend on fantastic track in Spielberg. This is the third round of this year’s Supercup championship and we are up for some top notch racing this week since the 28 drivers are lined up for Sunday’s race. Interesting fact is that two of the drivers, Connor de Phillipi and Matteo Cairoli will have new cars in which they will compete. De Phillipi needed a full rebuild after the Monaco crash and Cairoli needed a brand new car after the jump at Lausitzring. As always, the Porsche Supercup grid included some of non championship racers and few guest drivers and this time, there is rookie Pedro Piquet who is just 16 and son of a famous Nelson Piquet Formula One champion. The teenage driver is part of Brazilian Porsche Cup and this is his first race in Supercup. He had 21st time in practice session today.

After 45 minutes of free practice session in Friday, Christian Englelhart was fastest with 1:33.222 time. The second was Matteo Cairoli who was just .219 seconds slower and the third was Michael Ammermuller. The new car obviously helped Cairoli to achieve second best time on today’s practice session and we will see how it would run tomorrow and on Sunday’s race. As always in Supercup sessions, the times were close and we can expect good qualifying session tomorrow and great race on Sunday. The weather was not great with damp track during the practice.
